At the Sacred Heart altar we see beautiful example of French mosaic. The ceiling and panels on either side of the niche are of rosy mosaic with the inscription in gold mosaic, "Cor Jesu Sacratissimum Misere Nobis." (Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, Have Mercy on Us.) behind the statue of the Sacred Heart is a background of gold mosaic with red crosses interspersed throughout. at the base of the altar is the Sacred Heart in red mosaic, recalling Christ's death for us. The floor at this altar is of Rosso Verona Reale marble, and the arch is of Breccia Medicea.
