St. Maria Goretti

The stained glass window going up the stairs to the choir is that of St. Maria Goretti, a Century child martyr, who was persecuted for her love of God. St. Maria Goretti is the youngest canonized Saint in the Catholic Church. She was canonized by Pope Piux XII on June 24,1950. She died a martyr before her 12th birthday. Young as she was, she made a choice, a choice based on her faith. The church holds up to the world the life, death and the faith of Maria Goretti. Fr. Gooley chose one of the young girls from our parish, Grace Pino, 16 years old at the time, to model the face of St. Maria Goretti for the stained glass window going up the stairs to the choir.
